DUI/OWI Revocation Appeals
If you have been convicted of multiple drunk driving or substance abuse cases, especially in a short period of time, your Michigan license has likely been revoked. This means you must apply for the reinstatement of your license, and must jump through several “hoops” to have a chance for its return. For the majority of cases, this application process goes through the Michigan Secretary of State, not through the courts. This means you are subject to all of Lansing’s red tape and regulations. Specifically, most of these hearings are conducted by and through the Michigan Secretary of State’s Administrative Hearing Section (AHS), previously known as the Driver’s Assessment and Appeal Division (DAAD). AHS utilizes 10 different Administrative Law Judges (aka, “Hearing Officers”) who preside over these hearings and ultimately decide if a person should have his/her license reinstated.
Daniel T. Geherin, founder of the Geherin Law Group (GLG Michigan) has been a license appeals specialist for 20+ years. He has conducted over 1,500 substance-abuse license reinstatement hearings at DAAD/AHS, and has appeared before every Hearing Officer on multiple occasions. His clients come from all over the State of Michigan, and all over the country. Because of this, he has helped reinstate over 300 Michigan licenses in the last decade alone.
At GLG Michigan, we consult with you to explain every step of this complicated process. We provide you with outlines, forms, and referrals to begin the application procedure. Typically, the appeal process begins with a Substance Abuse Evaluation. We have relationships with therapists throughout the State of Michigan to whom we may refer you for this Evaluation. We help review the paperwork, organize it, and request the hearing via an online SOS download system. Then, we thoroughly prepare you for testifying at the hearing. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, we appear with you at the hearing and fight for you to have your license restored.
Finding an experienced attorney to help can mean the difference between driving again and waiting another grueling year to begin the application process anew. All too often, attorneys try to “dabble” in license restoration work, and simply do not have the expertise and knowledge necessary to help. In many occasions, these same attorneys do not even prepare their clients to testify until the date of the hearing itself! At GLG Michigan, we take a hands-on and proactive approach to license restoration cases, and keep you advised every step of the way. We know the process, we appear before the judges, and we understand that the road to success requires intensive preparation. In short, because we recognize how important a driver’s license is to a client, we work as hard as we can to get back their driving privileges.
